BlackShot Origin Story: Chapter 1

In the ever-evolving world of Mercenary combat, the seeds of a new beginning present an all-new story to tell the tale of how things came to be in the world of BlackShot. Here’s Chapter 1.

Chapter 1 - Part 1: Chaos Theory

The year is 2031. The world’s human population has nearly doubled, pushing governments to the brink as they struggle to maintain order. A simultaneous and overwhelming level of domestic and military spending follows, sending the value of money crashing down.

With little left to pay their own employees, the governments of the United States, EU, United Kingdom, Russia, China, Australia, South Korea and Japan begin drastic austerity measures, scaling back their military and domestic programs to historic lows. Poverty and civil unrest spread rapidly across the world like never before.

With the global economy in freefall, gold and precious minerals skyrocket in value. These commodities become the new de-facto currency of major corporations and Private Military Companies (PMC), who begin an astronomical rise to power. One of these PMCs is a multinational organization known as BlackShot.

Chapter 1 - Part 2: Rise of the PMC

In a desperate race to capitalize on these new resources, the U.S., EU, Russia and China pour what little capital they have left into contracting corporations to fund domestic infrastructure, and PMCs to fight proxy wars for control of the world’s remaining precious resource points.

What becomes known as the Remote Wars drags on into the 2050s, with much of the developing world left devastated as resource points switch hands repeatedly between PMCs contracted by the U.S., EU, China and Russia.

With each subsequent battle, PMCs exert more control over their government employers. Soon, they become so wealthy that they demand political influence instead of payment. By 2052, more than half of the United States Congress are former PMC executives.
